WHY TEACH AT SHIPLAKE? | SHIPLAKE COLLEGE

Why Teach at Shiplake?

At Shiplake, the passionate teaching and support staff make the energetic and dynamic boarding school a welcoming place in which to work. Applying for teaching jobs is largely influenced by the school in which the job is placed; teachers need to be confident knowing that the school will suit them. What makes Shiplake a unique and nurturing place to work? A rich and inspiringly-taught curriculum creates an environment where personal values and a strong work ethic can develop. To enable pupils to fully benefit from our curriculum we underpin it with the very finest pastoral care, and encourage participation in such co-curricular pursuits as sports fixtures, musical ensembles, drama productions or community service, which is as vital for personal development as classroom-based teaching. Our reputation has been built on young men and women who go out into the world and earn respect for their ability to adapt, to succeed and to lead. Shiplake’s secret is to prepare pupils, regardless of their individual talent or abilities, to take their place in the world beyond the school walls.

Setting is key to Shiplake’s success. Situated in 45 acres of stunning Oxfordshire countryside near Henley-on-Thames, the College sits on the bank of the Thames. First class facilities sit alongside historical buildings, and pupils and staff enjoy gym facilities, a swimming pool, a Lecture Theatre, fully equipped academic departments and first-class Music, Art and Learning Development departments.

The academic curriculum is delivered through small classes and individual attention in a supportive, stimulating environment. Our teaching is delivered through a mixture of conventional teaching and inspirational multi-sensory methods to provide for a range of learning styles. Classroom teaching is enhanced through educational visits, demonstrations, theatre trips, lectures and practical work.

Pastoral care is key at Shiplake; staff develop strong relationships with pupils as they take a holistic approach to education. To support our pupils in their endeavours, we offer a pastoral system that is second to none. Knowing our pupils well enables us to ensure that they get the best from their education here, and this is a pivotal part of any role at the College.

Embracing the lifestyle at a busy and vibrant boarding school is paramount for anyone wishing to work at Shiplake. We strive to recruit the best possible teaching and support staff to drive the College forwards and ensure we continue to provide the best possible rounded education for our pupils.
