DEVELOPMENT

The Development Office helps to build a network of strong, positive relationships amongst parents, Old Vikings, staff, and other friends and supporters of Shiplake College.

The Development team is responsible for implementing a long-term and integrated fundraising and alumni relations programme. This includes working with the Old Viking Society to provide a calendar of events and reunions, and supporting the Headmaster and governors in achieving their aims to develop the College and realise their vision for the future.

Giving to Shiplake College

Regular fundraising is crucial to assist Shiplake College’s ongoing development. In an ever-changing world, thriving and successful schools cannot stand still and must continue to invest and make positive strides forward. Shiplake is a relatively young school and therefore does not possess an endowment that many other schools benefit from. Unfortunately, fee income alone is not sufficient to guarantee that the College will continue to provide the best possible environment and education for our boys and girls in years to come. As a result, we rely on the generosity and kindness of all College stakeholders, who are as committed as we are to ensuring Shiplake remains one of the best small schools in the country.

There are many ways to help the College and its pupils, such as making a donation or organising an event. For further information or to discuss how you can support the College, please contact the Development Office on 0118 9405 222 or email [email protected].

John Turner Campaign

The Governors and Headmaster of Shiplake College are delighted to report that the John Turner Building £100,000 Campaign, launched in February 2014, was a great success. In less than 12 months, the ambitious target was surpassed and the total raised was a fantastic £107,832.

Through careful planning, the College was able to finance the construction of the development itself, however, the donations received have ensured that the building was fitted out with the best possible resources. The campaign allowed the College to upgrade or purchase equipment which would otherwise not have been possible; providing first-class equipment for a first-class facility.

It was wonderful to see the donors participating in the various funds, by sponsoring a classroom, Lecture Theatre seat, colour, instrument or computer key, in order to direct their gifts to a particular department. Many also chose to allow the College to use the donation wherever it was required the most.

Donations were received from all areas of the College community, including current parents (some of whom were about to become former Shiplake parents), staff, Old Vikings (former pupils and staff), governors and other friends of the College. The level of donations ranged from £20 to five-figure sums, with every gift making a genuine difference.

A great big thank you to all those who contributed. There are plaques around the new building to recognise the donors to the various funds and a full list of donors can be found in the Campaign Closing Report, which also provides information about the development process, opening ceremony and a summary of giving (see below).
