On Saturday afternoon, members of the Shiplake College Boat Club
competed at Wallingford Long Distance Sculls. Six Shiplake crews raced over
4250km in time-trial fashion. This was the first competition of the season for Boat
Club and it started positively with two wins and a number of promising
performances.
James Love and Vincent Thomann took the Junior 18 Double sculls
pennant, beating off strong competition from 18 other crews. Tom and Harry
Berkley finished a creditable 3rd in the same event.Sebastian Newman and Henry
Blois-Brooke took an impressive win in the Junior 16 Double sculls event,
beating off 10 other crews, finishing 33 seconds in front of the next best
crew.
Anna Davies and Lucy Walker had to compete in Women’s Elite Double
Sculls against highly experienced opponents but demonstrated very competent
sculling to finish 2nd in their category.
Two matched Quad Sculls competed in the Elite Men’s event,
although competing in a hard category the aim was for our crews to compete
against each other. The crew of Phill Green, Scott Parker, Tim Waller and Tom
Emerson emerged triumphant over Oliver Gerard, Henry Edwards, Andrew Turnill
and Will Carey winning by 23.5 seconds.
