This academic year,
our new Director of Sport Mr Gaunt has teamed up with the Headmaster to devise
a new way to reward pupils consistently displaying exceptional commitment to
Shiplake sport. This had led to the introduction of an all new Headmaster’s XV,
a ‘dream team’ of the most dedicated pupils. Mr Gaunt explains the concept
below:
“Individuals are forwarded for selection by their team
coaches and the XV is finalised by myself, as Director of Sport. Those who have
been chosen for the team have been identified as playing and training with
outstanding commitment. The pupils have acted as an example to others and are
always willing to put their team mates before themselves. Being selected for
the team represents a substantial achievement and will be recognised with the
reward of a certificate in assembly and via publication in the newsletter and
on the school website.
I sincerely hope that any
pupil playing sport at Shiplake College will aspire to be selected for the
Headmaster’s XV on a regular basis. Selection is not necessarily based upon the
quality of your performances and as such is not the equivalent of an attainment
grade; rather it is a recognition of the pupils dedication and hard work in the
sporting arena.”
Headmaster Mr Davies commented: “I am very pleased to
support this idea as it shows pupils that their hard graft does not go
unnoticed. It is different from the traditional ‘player of the season’ awards
selected at the end of the season in that it does not take sporting ability into
account. The award could be won by any pupil who is involved in sport in some
capacity.”
Congratulations to the boys and girls who made the grade
this half term. They will all receive the certificate below in assembly after
half term.
The next Headmaster’s XV will be announced at Christmas. It will then be down to hockey and football players to battle it out for selection next term.
