On Wednesday 8 October, the Drama Department took the
whole of Year 9 to see War Horse at the New London Theatre. Drama teacher Miss
Jenny Unwin provided the following report from the popular trip:
“As the pupils all grabbed their packed suppers and piled
onto the waiting coaches, there was a buzz of excitement in the air! Having
studied the War Horse story previously and watched some of the National Theatre
behind the scenes videos of the horses in action, the boys were all eager to
see if the experience would live up to their expectations.
We arrived with just enough time for the students to buy
some sweets for the show and check out the enormous hanging horse puppet in the
theatre foyer before we had to take our seats. Judging by the attentive silence
and awe stricken expressions the boys were not disappointed!
It was not long before you totally forgot that the horses
were puppets and began to truly believe that they were real horses. However, the
most popular character on stage seemed to be the goose, who caused fits of
laughter from the students with its clumsy yet feisty personality.
Overall, it was a fabulous evening and a breathtaking show.”
