Record-Breaking A Level Results
AcademicSixth Form

Shiplake College has received its best ever A Level results, breaking records across the board. Not only has the percentage of results at the top end risen, with 41% A* and A grades compared to 36% in 2015, but the College has also achieved a 100% pass rate for the first time. Most significantly was the 13% rise of A*-C grades, up from 74% last year.

Headmaster, Gregg Davies, comments: “Naturally I am extremely pleased with this year’s record-breaking results. They are a reflection of a distinctive partnership between the pupils and staff, which includes crucial guidance regarding appropriate A Level and BTEC subject choices and admirable hard work and dedication from all involved. Those who took on the additional Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) also received some fantastic results, with Oscar Oglina and Emily Dewell both achieving an A*.

There are many stories of individual successes, including personal goals achieved at all grade levels. Of note are those who achieved all A*s and As: Ed Warren (Law, Warwick), Scarlett Martin (Psychology, Exeter), Oscar Oglina (Medicine, Bristol), Oli Riley (Theology and Religion, Durham), Sam Collett Fuzesi (Psychology, Southampton), James Fenton (Business Economics, Exeter) and Freddie Brady (Physics and Astrophysics, Bath).

Year 13 leavers are going on to a variety of educational establishments, with Exeter, Oxford Brookes and Newcastle remaining popular destinations. Degrees range from Criminology to Architecture, as well as many Business, Sports and Science related courses. Nearly 94% of all leavers are heading to the university of their choice, which makes this the most successful year to date!

This year also marks the first set of results attained by boys who joined the school in Year 7, when that year group was established in 2009. These boys all gained a high set of results, with a large number of A*, A, and Distinction* grades in their A Level and BTEC subjects.

Congratulations to the class of 2016 and I wish them every success for the next stage of their lives.”
