Wins at Wallingford for Rowers
RowingCo-Curricular

Following the excitement of a summer filled with rowing accomplishments - from an Olympic Gold for Old Viking to Will Satch, to Seb Newman representing Great Britain at the Junior World Championships, and Henry Blois-Brooke and Will Carey achieving golds at the Coupe de la Jeunesse – pupils returned to Shiplake with a renewed vigour for rowing. Eager to make the most of the incredible opportunities put before rowers by Director of Rowing Mr David Currie, pupils have been training incredibly hard, keen to represent the College at events. On Saturday 24 September, the first race of the season took place at Wallingford Boat Club. Thank you to Mr Currie for the following report:

‘Wallingford was the first Head Race of the season for the Boat Club. At this time of year, we are predominantly training in small boats, so at this race all those completed in singles. For some boys, this was their first ever singles race, which is great for their experience. The Wallingford course is a very challenging stretch of the river, and is over 5km. We had 16 single scullers racing, and all of them completed the course in the best time they could. The senior male rowers were well-represented, and the girls enjoyed a successful event too! A big congratulations to Deputy Head of College Henry Blois-Brooke for winning the IM3 pennant, and Georgia-May Fry for finishing second in the Women’s Junior 17 category!’
