The Business of Fundraising
AcademicBusiness BTEC

The Business BTEC pupils have been busy arranging a variety of activities, in order to complete the ‘Running a Business Event’ component of their BTEC. The students have been in charge of everything, from creating a concept for an event, to organising the logistics on the day and marketing and publicising it. With the assistance of Mr David Rose, the two groups have hosted a slew of events, raising money for local charity Sue Ryder.

Throughout the past week, the Sixth Formers studying a BTEC in Business Studies have hosted a plethora of unique events; from games night to guessing the number of balloons in the car, there has been no shortage of interesting events to garner attention and raise funds for the chosen charity. On the evening of Tuesday 15 November, one of the BTEC groups held a Games Night in the Great Hall. Having set up a number of different games, including Tin Can Alley, Pot Luck and a FIFA Tournament, visitors could pay to play on the variety of games. The Great Hall turned arcade proved a popular hit, with a raffle also being held. The group had a number of prizes in the raffle, including box tickets to the O2 to watch The 1975. The event was well-attended, with over 70 students, and staff members joining in. A total of £528 was raised on the night, which was added to the funds raised throughout the week. Selling donuts and pies from a local bakery also proved a big hit – they were sold out within a matter of minutes and the group raised over £100. In Skipwith courtyard on a chilly morning, the students had set up a wet-sponge-throwing spectacle, and pupils and teachers had both volunteered to be the target – a very popular attraction! So far, over £695 has been raised for Sue Ryder.

The second group of Business pupils have organised a charity auction. This will take place on Saturday 3 December, and the prizes are incredible. Lots include dinner for six cooked in your own home, tickets to the Saracens vs Harlequins at Wembley, a weekend stay in a cottage in the Cotswolds and two premier enclosure tickets for a day at Newbury Race Course, amongst many others. There will also be a raffle, with such prizes as a voucher for Machins, a voucher for the Snow Centre at Hemel Hempstead and an iTunes voucher.
