Captains of Girls' Games Announced
SportGirls

Following the appointment of sports captains for Rowing, Girls’ Rowing and Rugby, the appointment of captains for Girls’ Hockey and Girls’ Games has been hotly anticipated. After much deliberation between Head of Girls’ Game and Hockey Mr Tom Walter, Director of Sport Mr Duncan Traynor, and coaches from across the different sports, the captains have been announced.

Mimi Brough and Sophia Gibbs have been made joint Captain of Girls’ Games. Mr Walter commented: ‘It is an exciting time for girls’ sport at Shiplake College, with more girls than ever before and the facilities to offer a fantastic games programme. Mimi and Sophia both played a very active role in girls’ sports last year, and it is the logical choice to appoint them both as joint Captains of Girls’ Games for the coming year. I hope that their energy and enthusiasm will inspire their peers to get involved in sport at every opportunity and I strongly believe that they will be invaluable in growing girls’ sport at the College.’

Along these two appointments, Issy Webster has been chosen as Captain of Girls’ Hockey. The girls’ hockey team – the first all-girls team in the history of the College – have had a very successful term to date. Taking on established rivals such as Magdalen College School and Lord Wandsworth College, the girls have won or drawn half of their matches so far. Mr Walter commented: ‘I am delighted to announce that Issy Webster has been named as Captain of Girls’ Hockey for this year. Issy was a valuable member of the mixed hockey team in her first year at the College when girls’ hockey was not an option, and I believe she will be able to drive the girls on to achieve success throughout the season. Her motivation on the pitch is infectious, and I believe her teammates will be able to learn a lot from her. Congratulations to all!’
