Burr Top House Ergo Competition
RowingSport

On Wednesday 14 December, all pupils from Years 9 to 13 had the chance to get involved with the House Ergo competition. Pupils from across the years came together in their houses, eager to prove that they could row the fastest. Many thanks to Director of Rowing, Mr David Currie, for the following report on another exciting House competition:

‘Houses competed for two trophies in the annual House Ergo competition; the House Ergo Trophy, and the House Relay Trophy. The House Ergo Trophy saw one pupil from each house in each different year group row individually for one minute, and then these individual efforts were combined to give a total for the house. The House Relay Trophy saw two teams from each of the houses racing over 2,112m, with their times combined to make a house total. It was a tough competition and everyone gave it their all! The Sports Hall was packed with supporters, so those pupils who had been chosen to row had plenty of encouragement!

In first place for the House Ergo Trophy, having rowed an epic combined total of 3,888m, was Burr House! This incredible total means an average of 324m a minute. Everett were a close second, with a combined total of 3,779m. Wells-Furby came in third, with a total of 3,601m. The House Relay Trophy was a similar story of incredibly close times, but a different winner came out on top. Everett House pipped the others to the post, coming first in 13 minutes 34 seconds! Bevan grabbed second place, with a time of 13 minutes and 40 seconds, and Burr took third place, with a time of 13 minutes and 43 seconds.

Everyone really gave it their all and loved getting involved – it’s fun to engage all different year groups and come together in houses. Congratulations to Burr House for winning the House Ergo Trophy, and Everett House for winning the House Relay Trophy. Thank you to all staff and students that supported the event; the atmosphere generated was fantastic and the house spirit was great to see!’
