Burr Top House Art Competition
Co-Curricular

On Saturday 14 January an exhibition was held in the Great Hall, to celebrate the incredible hard work and talent of Shiplake’s budding artists. Head of Art Mrs Hema Gillings organised the House Art Exhibition, encouraging all pupils to enter. There was no theme and no rules on what medium could be used; pieces on any topic and presented in a variety of ways were accepted.

There was a great array of spectacular artwork on show; pupils entered photographs, paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints on a variety of themes. All GCSE and A Level Art students entered, along with a number of pupils from lower years. Art Assistant Mrs Gillian Findlay and Miss Suzy Andrew transformed the Great Hall into a gallery for a day, and parents, friends and families came along to support the students and admire the artwork. After much deliberation between all of the Art Department, winners from each category were chosen, and the House with the most winners crowned victorious. Mrs Gillings commented: ‘there was an exceptionally high standard of entries this year, so congratulations to everyone who did enter. We had a fantastic range of different pieces that were enjoyed by visitors. It was a tough competition, but I am pleased to announce the winners. In third place was Skipwith and in second place was Orchard. Burr House was victorious, winning first place!’
