First Colours Blazers Awarded
RugbySport

Recognising commitment and achievements both within sports teams at Shiplake, and outside the curriculum, is an important part of sporting life at the College. A number of awards have been developed, between Director of Sport Mr Duncan Traynor and Headmaster Mr Gregg Davies, in order to best recognise and celebrate the achievements of Shiplake’s athletes. These honours start from a Pin Badge, to recognise players who have participated in 75% or more of the games for which they have been available, and go upwards to the Blazer Badge, which is to recognise those achieving high honours outside school. Three rugby players have been awarded the Colours Blazer, for outstanding achievement.

The newly-designed Colours Blazer has come into effect this term, with the first three blazers awarded to Captain of Rugby Finn Arbuckle, Ross Johnstone and Henry Birdsey. The Colours Blazer is awarded to a select number of pupils, who are already achieving the White Tie for making a significant contribution towards their respective A team. The athletes must also show outstanding achievement, contribution and attitude throughout the season in order to be awarded with a Colours Blazer. The new blazers, created by renowned manufacturers Collier and Robinson, are maroon, emblazoned with the College crest and trimmed with the iconic Shiplake colours. Henry, Ross and Finn worked extremely hard in rugby throughout the season, and are the first pupils to receive the Colours Blazer.

Director of Sport Mr Duncan Traynor commented: ‘it was fantastic to see Henry, Finn and Ross have their efforts and commitment to rugby at Shiplake College recognised with the awarding of these blazers. These blazers symbolise their contribution to rugby and are hopefully something tangible that they will cherish forever, along with fond memories of their times on the pitch.’ Director of Rugby Mr Sam Beckett also offered his congratulations, noting: ‘I am so pleased to be able to award Ross, Henry and Finn for their efforts on the rugby field. The introduction of this award really offers recognition to those who go above and beyond, and the boys can wear their blazers with pride. They are absolutely deserving of this award.’
