After months of
excitement and weeks of renovation, Shiplake’s Director of Sport Mr Gaunt has
unveiled a brand new strength and conditioning gym and cardiovascular training
room in the College sports centre.
The new facilities are
now available for pupils to use during designated sessions throughout the week,
to aid their preparation for outdoor training and fixtures throughout the
season across all sports. The College has also enlisted the help of local
personal trainer Chris Emmett, who will be on hand to provide expertise, design
training programmes and supervise pupils’ gym sessions.
The new facility is
fully equipped with first-class machines and apparatus, including 3 Power Racks, Benches, 2-45kg
Dumbbells, a Total Body
Resistance (TRX) Exercise Frame, Cable Machines, Kettlebells, Powerbags, Battle Ropes, Balance Boards, 8 Spin Bikes, 14 Rowing Ergometers and a Treadmill.
As part of the
renovation project, the school squash court is now back in action. With a
competitive staff ladder already set up, it will not be long until pupils are challenging
the leaders to a grudge match.
Mr
Gaunt commented: “I am delighted we have been able to open this new indoor
training area, to match the quality of our superb outdoor facilities. There is
no doubt this will benefit the vast majority of our pupils, and I am already
looking forward to seeing the impact this can have on results on dry land and
on the river.”
