Raising Funds for Charities
Business BTECCharities

The BTEC Business pupils worked incredibly hard to raise money for local charities the Churches in Reading Drop-In Centre, and Sue Ryder. The classes ran a variety of events in order to raise money, as part of the ‘Running a Business Event’ element of the BTEC course. One group ran a charity auction and raffle evening, having worked to acquire a fantastic list of prizes. The other BTEC group ran a Games Night, with old-fashioned fair stalls, such as a ‘soak a teacher’, all in aid of these two worthy causes.

Both of the groups were in charge of running everything themselves, from creating a concept for the event, organising the logistics on the day, marketing the event and publicising it. This was no mean feat; the groups worked tirelessly to ensure that the events were a success. The charity auction was fabulous, with many parents coming to support the pupils and win some amazing prizes. The second group, who had turned the Great Hall into an arcade, also had a very successful event, with attendees enjoying Tin Can Alley, Pot Luck and a FIFA tournament.

Representatives from both the Churches in Reading Drop-In Centre, which provides shelter for homeless people in and around Reading, and from Sue Ryder, the Nettlebed –based hospice which provides exceptional care for families who have been affected by illness, came to the College. The groups were able to present them with cheques, with a combined total of over £5,000, which was a fantastic achievement and will go a great way to helping these charities provide the life-changing support they do.
