Actors Take the Stage
DramaAcademic

A Level Drama performances took place over the past week, with pupils performing original pieces of drama for packed audiences in the Tithe Barn. There were three groups performing as part of their A Level, and the tone and plot of each piece were vastly different.

The first group, made up of Darcy Timms, Mimi Ellis, Tom Coates and Joe Szweda, performed a hard-hitting piece about relationships, which incorporated physical theatre. The piece was cleverly split between two couples – Darcy and Joe, and Mimi and Tom – and the trials and tribulations they were facing. Whilst there was a serious undertone, there were great comic moments about marriage that raised a lot of laughter from the audiences! The second group, made up of Elouise Harman, Ollie Brown and Casper Wise, performed a piece in the Commedia dell-arte style of One Man Two Guvnors. The piece was about a woman being caught between two romantic prospects, and was absolutely hilarious. The actors employed exaggerated characters and movements, to underline the style of the piece, and emphasise the hilarity. The final piece, by Will Parton and Will Baily, was another hard-hitting piece that was, at times, difficult to watch. It was about a couple, one of whom had severe autism, and this was taking its toll on his partner. Both actors did the plot justice, with well-considered characterisations.

Head of Drama Mrs Jenny Nunes commented: ‘the pupils have all worked incredibly hard, working on the scripts, studying practitioners and coming up with their own individual plots and characters.’
