Presenting for Bronze
Duke of EdinburghCo-Curricular

Pupils taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme have to complete a number of different tasks and elements, in order to obtain their certificates. Pupils undertaking the Bronze DofE award, who have recently completed their expeditions to the Chilterns (read more here) were tasked with putting together and delivering presentations in their expedition groups. All groups were required to attend this presentation, which took place on Monday 12 June, and was a great way for pupils to relive their experiences and tell others about their expeditions.

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze AwardThe groups had spent the past few weeks working together, creating their presentations in preparation for Monday’s event. The presentation could be any format, although most groups chose to use PowerPoint to go through photos from the expedition, and give an idea to the audience of what they had learnt from participating in the DofE award. For many, invaluable skills such as teamwork, following directions, and collaborating. Other skills learnt were orienteering, using a compass, and cooking outside. One group chose to present on the damage that humans are doing to the environment, and how this was visible throughout their expedition. The group discussed the impact on animals’ habitats and the environment, as well as the condition of the land.

The event was interesting and eye-opening. The groups had clearly put a lot of thought into their presentations, using photographs and videos to best illustrate the expedition, and the knowledge that they had gained from it. Bobby Howard-Jones had created a video for the piece, which can be seen here. Creating a presentation was one of the final parts required for the Bronze DofE Award.
