Smoothies Are Created
Co-Curricular

The Year 10 Enrichment Week continued yesterday and our pupils were set a task that gave them the opportunity to show off their creativity and business acumen. They were tasked with creating a smoothie! The pupils were split into small groups of between four and seven and all groups had a member of staff overseeing them throughout the day.

Although the taste would be important, this was not just a task where the pupils picked random flavours and hoped they would taste good. The groups had to create a company that they could take to market and come up with a name, tag line, logo, target audience, marketing strategy and make sure that the sums added up so that their product would make profit.

Having the freedom to create their own brand and product was an opportunity the pupils truly embraced. The classrooms were buzzing throughout the day with all pupils contributing with their ideas for branding and flavours. Some sounding a lot nicer than others! The day came to an end and all pupils were given the opportunity to view and taste their peers’ creations in the Great Hall. There was such a great variety of branding concepts and smoothies on offer and the pupils really enjoyed having the time to questions their peers on their product. As well as being judged by their peers, Marketing and Communications Executive Miss Chelsi Challis and Deputy Head, Pastoral Mr Nick Brown, sat on an independent panel and judged the groups on their brand, taste and marketing strategy.

The judges’ winners on the day were ‘Shaka Smoothies’ with the aim of their smoothie being to bring together the tastes of Hawaii in a bottle. Comments from Miss Challis were: ‘the smoothie was genuinely delicious and I would have purchased it from a supermarket. The use of lime and kiwi was innovative, and the taste was fitting with their whole brand image.”

A massive thank you to Miss Lizzy Morgan for coordinating another successful day in the Year 10 Enrichment Week calendar. Miss Morgan commented on yesterday’s events: ‘it was truly tremendous. I can’t believe the buzz, energy and enthusiasm shown by the group throughout the day and in the final pitches.’
