House Ergo Competition 2017
HousesRowing

On 13 December, hundreds of students turned out in force to support their houses through the annual Ergonomics competition.

Before the Christmas Break, 84 pupils took part in the annual house ergo competition, each representing their respective house. The sports hall was filled to the rafters with supportive friends and colleagues as members of each house took turns on the indoor rowing machines. Once on, they spent a minute rowing as ferociously as they could in attempt to cover as much distance as possible. The greatest distance achieved was by a member of Year 12 Orchard sub-house Bevan, who accomplished 364 meters!

The House Ergo Competition is an opportunity for the School’s best rowers to compete against each other as representatives of their houses. It is also an event that instils values such as encouragement, good sportsmanship and offering support to one’s friends. While everyone taking place had a great time, the winning house was Burr, who, between twelve rowers, completed 3927 meters! Second place was Welsh, with 3787 meters, and third place went to Everett, who covered 3700 meters.

The afternoon was brought to a close by the House Ergo Relay Race, in which two members of each house both covered the same distance, with the winning house having the fastest completion time. This year’s winning relay team belongs to Burr House, leading to a sweep victory for them across the board. Burr’s winning time was 13 minutes and 24 seconds, while Welsh came second with 13:47 and Everett coming third after a tough 13:56 slog!

Director of Rowing Mr Dave Currie said ‘As always it was a great event and displayed great house spirit. Congratulations to Burr house for winning both trophies.’
