We are delighted to announce the introduction of an exciting
new A Level subject commencing in September 2015; Circus Skills. The subject
nurtures an exciting blend of creative, academic and interpersonal skills, and
we cannot wait to get started.
The course, designed by a new forward-thinking examination
board AFD, tests a mixture of theoretical and practical aptitudes. Students are
required to master a number of challenging contemporary and traditional domains
including equilibristics and acro-balance. Theory modules will include ‘Big Top
Design’ and the ‘History of Circus Acts in Mainland Europe’.
To lead the new Circus Skills Department, the College has
secured the services of some world-leading experts. Stilt-walking specialist Mrs
A Fool, the Head of Department, commented: ‘I am so grateful for the
opportunity to inspire the next generation of circus artists. The Head of Department
role will undoubtedly be a challenge, with many plates to keep spinning, but I
am confident I can juggle my responsibilities and ensure I become a real asset
to Shiplake College.’
The introduction of a brand new subject naturally requires
small changes in infrastructure. As a result, a permanent tight rope will be
erected between the Skipwith Tower and the John Turner Building. Furthermore,
after a long period of consultation, the Drama Department have kindly agreed that
the Tithe Barn Theatre will be transformed into a Trapeze Arena.
Students interested in studying this new A Level course are
requested to register their interest by clicking here. We are anticipating exceptional
demand for the subject, so it is advised students respond by 12.00 noon on Friday 1 April.
Please note the date of this article (April Fools' Day!!). Surely we didn't fool you??
