A Very Artistic Saturday
AcademicCo-Curricular

On Saturday 20 June, the Art Department held a private event, in order to showcase the artwork that had been created by GCSE, AS Level and A Level Fine Art pupils. The exhibition, which took place in the Great Hall, saw parents, pupils and friends invited to the school, in order to see the hard work that had been poured into the coursework.

Pupils exhibited two pieces of artwork each; one which was taken from their coursework, and one from the externally set assignment. Every free surface in the Great Hall was covered, and guests saw a mixture of disciplines such as print-making, ceramic sculpture, wire sculpture and oil on canvas. Captivating portraits and wire sculptures of different animals and dinosaurs were amongst the large range of artwork that was on show; as well as a bronze-painted lifesize sculpture of a head!

Family, friends and fellow pupils were out in force to view the different works of art on offer, showing their support for the hard work and dedication that the students studying art had put into the pieces, and were extremely impressed with the high level of work. Indeed, one parent commented that ‘some of the work wouldn’t look out of place at a degree exhibition!’ Many positive comments were added to that, with spectators commenting that it was a ‘very impressive collection of art’, with pupils ‘obviously encouraged to fulfil their true potential.’

The pupils were incredibly proud of the exhibit. Head of Art Mrs Hema Gillings said of the event that ‘it was a smash success, and we are really pleased to be able to exhibit the work for family and friends once exams are over. I’m so proud of what everyone has achieved, and I hope that everyone who came can see the hard work and effort that has been put in by all the students here.’
