Leavers Celebrate Record Results
Academic

The College is delighted to reveal an excellent set of results at A Level, AS Level and BTEC. The statistics represent a further improvement from 2014, continuing our ongoing trend of strong examination performances. Notably, the attainment of high end grades (A*-A) by pupils in Year 12 and 13 has increased by almost 10%. The attainment of A*-B grades has also risen significantly across both year groups, by 12%, whilst our overall pass rate now sits at 99%.

The Headmaster, Gregg Davies, commented: ‘I am very pleased that today’s results reinforce the findings of our recent ISI inspection, which rated the College as ‘excellent’ across all inspection categories. The outstanding grades achieved by Sixth Form pupils demonstrate again the considerable strength of teaching and learning at Shiplake College. I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate our students on their achievements, which are a reflection of the endeavour and resilience they have displayed during their time at Shiplake. I would also like to warmly praise my colleagues for repeatedly going above and beyond to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.’

Leavers’ Destinations

We are thrilled to confirm that our leavers have successfully gained admission to a variety of leading higher education institutions including Oxbridge, Ivy League and Russell Group universities.

Everett leaver Freddie Ireland will read Mechanical Engineering at Clare College, Cambridge, having achieved straight A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics. Henry Cawthorne is heading to Dartmouth College, USA, having been awarded a full scholarship. Alongside his studies, he is relishing the prospect of continuing his promising rowing career. Katie Webster, currently performing as part of Shiplake’s theatre group at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, attained A*AA and is looking forward to pursuing a career in acting. The College has achieved a record number of A*s at A Level. In addition to Freddie and Katie, other A* students include Yeem Chanthanawan (Mathematics), Tasha Custis (Art), Vita Paxman (History), Emily Holloway (Psychology), George Lawley (History) and Henry Waller (History).

Harry Chapples has been awarded a scholarship by Exeter University to study English, having achieved three As. Jamie Mottram is heading north to study Chemical Engineering at Leeds. He will be joined by another straight A student, girls’ sport captain Eleanor Waite, who will read Economics and Finance. Other leavers heading to Russell Group universities include Vita Paxman (Warwick), Yeem Chanthanawan (Nottingham), Tom Harman (Liverpool) and Dan DiGiulio (Manchester).

A widely regarded strength of the curriculum at Shiplake College is the opportunity to study a combined programme of BTEC and A Level subjects. This is beneficial to many students, allowing them to gain access to high quality courses at prestigious universities. Tom Lewis, who studied Travel and Tourism BTEC alongside Economics and Geography A Levels, has secured a place at Royal Holloway to study Management with International Business. Football captain Tom Banks, who followed a similar programme, will read Business and Management at Oxford Brookes.

The College also received its best ever set of AS results, with Greg Cooke (AAAA), Matt Fenton (AAAA), Sam Collett (AAAB), James Fenton (AAA) all performing exceptionally. Nick Hayes, who studies a mixed programme, attained two Distinction*s, the highest BTEC grade, in addition to an A in Psychology.

We are proud of all our students’ achievements, and we wish our leavers the very best for their life beyond Shiplake.
