World's Largest Coffee Morning
Parents' AssociationCharities

As part of the world’s largest coffee morning, the Shiplake College Parents’ Association held a coffee and cake morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Hosted in the OVR, the event saw parents and staff alike donate baked and bought goods, to raise money for the charity. Coffee mornings were taking place up and down the country, helping Macmillan to raise much-needed funds to support the charity in the work that they do for people fighting cancer.

Macmillan, founded in 1911, is the largest registered cancer care and support charity throughout the UK. The charity works with cancer sufferers and families to provide a source of support, finding nurses and specialist health care professionals to offer not just medical help, but practical home support and emotional support, working to bring about positive changes.

Since its inception in 1990, the worldwide Coffee Mornings have raised over £138,000,000 for Macmillan, and this doesn’t look set to stop any time soon. The Shiplake College Coffee Morning was organised by the Parents’ Association, who encouraged staff members and parents to bring in cakes and baked goods - whether homemade or shop-bought – and stay to enjoy a slice or two with a cup of tea or coffee. The donations came in thick and fast and there was a plethora of different options available. Money was donated for each cuppa and each sweet treat, and the event was a smash success. Once all the donations had been counted, the total amount raised was in excess of £235, helping Macmillan to reach their final total of over £9,000,000.
