Headmaster's XV and VIII Announced
SportCo-Curricular

Another term of sporting glory brings with it another chance to celebrate the achievements and commitment of the Shiplake sportsmen. The latest Headmaster’s XV has been announced! This sporting achievement recognises fifteen pupils who have been exemplary in their sport over the past weeks, with their attitude and determination. This term, rowing has been back on the menu and Director of Rowing Mr David Currie has put together a Headmaster’s VIII, to celebrate the rowers who show great ardour and enthusiasm.

Unlike traditional sporting awards, the Headmaster’s XV is specifically awarded to those who deserve recognition for their devotion and hard work throughout the sporting season, and is not based on skill and performance alone. Players from each different team and each different sport compete to win the award. Once names have been put forward by coaches, it is down to the Director of Sport Mr James Gaunt to finalise the decision. Mr Gaunt commented that ‘this term, between us all the sporting staff have managed to keep it down to 16 names! Which is fine; it is a fantastic that we’re in the position to have too many wonderful players from which to choose. We were very impressed with the talent and passion shown on the pitch, courts and in the boats, and this award reflects that.’

And Mr Currie has also got together with the rowing coaches to decide who made the Headmaster’s VIII. Another season of sporting successes has been brilliant, and as we wing our towards the Henley Regatta it is important to recognise the hard work put in before that.’
