Spring Concert 2024
Music

The Sports Hall was alive with the sound of music at the end of the Spring Term on Wednesday 27 March as the Music Department put on a fantastic show of musical quality and prowess. There were so many performers from across the entire College taking to the stage and there was something for everyone to enjoy and get moving to.

First to take to the stage was Rare Groove who were accompanied with Year 13 and Year 10 pupils Noah Scotchbrook and Jack Dag. First, they delighted the audience with their rendition of WHAM!’s Club Tropicana before Jack wowed everyone by singing in Japanese. Singing Crystal Dolphin by Hamada with Rare Groove certainly kicked off the evening in style!

Next to take the stage was the Lower School Choir who sang a Fire Medley featuring songs from Adele, Bastille, and Ellie Goulding. This choir, now inclusive of boys and girls with our co-ed Year 7 cohort, is going from strength to strength following their recent performance at the 2023 Winter Concert and we cannot wait to see them perform at Shiplake Rocks in the summer. Well done especially to those who had solo parts during the performance.

Collar and Knight, fronted by Year 10’s G Knight, were next to perform with their rendition of Idol’s Dancing with Myself before the Woodwind Ensemble performed All of Me by Simon & Marks. It was then time for +1 to take to the stage with first Noah Scotchbrook (Year 13) singing The Wasteland, before Grace McKean (Year 12) sang Amy Winehouse's Valerie. The Burr House Ensemble, following their recent win in the Inter-House Singing Competition, then put in another captivating performance of Somewhere Only We Know by Keane. Those present at the singing competition were blessed to hear this again while those hearing it for the first time could see why Burr House were victorious last term.

The Saxophone Quartet then showed their prowess with their performance of A Foggy Day by Gershwin before Izzy Young (Year 13) performed the popular hit song Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. This was followed by the Camerata who continued the theme of popular songs from films with their rendition of A Million Dreams, most known from The Greatest Showman. After the Camerata, the Chorus took to the stage for a double act – firstly singing Sing We and Chant It by Morley before getting everyone in the audience moving to Toto’s Africa.

Big Band closed the Spring Concert this year where they also performed two pieces. First, with arguably one of the performances of the night, was Tu vuo fa l’Americano which featured Will Griffith (Year 10) on the vocals. His powerful voice, projecting throughout the Sports Hall, had everyone captivated and clapping along to the song. The second performance, Birdland by Zawinul, was the perfect way to close an unforgettable evening.

Well done to all involved and a big thank you to senior Music Captains, Noah Scotchbrook and Darcey Knight who hosted the evening and introduced each performance.

Please enjoy the highlights below from what was an evening full of high-quality music and entertainment!
