Congratulations to former pupil Will Satch on winning the silver medal in the pairs event at the Rowing World Cup in Belgrade this weekend and to his sister, current pupil Jo Unsworth, on her silver medal with the GB Junior Squad in Munich.
Jo, who rows for Shiplake and Henley Rowing Club, has also been chosen to be part of the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes programme which will see the Year 12 pupil receive £1,000 towards the costs of training and competing. Jo, who was one of only 264 young sportsmen and women selected from across England and Wales, attended the launch of the award at Wembley Stadium.
Jo commented, 'I am very grateful to have been been selected for this scheme as it will enable me to attend training camps and competitions. Every trial I attend for the GB squad costs around £200 plus costs for equipment, clothing and transport. The money will be a big help and enable me to aim for the world juniors in Bulgaria.'
Headmaster Gregg Davies commented, 'We are very proud of both Will and Jo's achievements and wish them the best of luck in their forthcoming events.'
