Mock Results Day Proves Valuable
EventsAcademic

Last week, Shiplake’s Year 13 Pupils received the results of their Mock A-Level Exams to prepare them for what may come this summer.

For the first few weeks of the new term, pupils undertook their mock A-Level examinations, not only to practice working in exam conditions, but also to prepare them for the real results day later on this year. The Year 13 Mocks, sat in early to mid-January, are designed to prepare our pupils for the experience of sitting their formal examinations in the summer.

In order to add an extra layer of realism to the process, the College put on its first Mock Results Day. Pupils arrived to the Old Vikings’ Room where they received their results in personalised sealed letters – to match the experience they will face in August - and were then able to discuss the implications of these in person with their Tutor, Head of Careers Mrs Rapple Moore, Head of Sixth Form Mr Curtis and Deputy Head of Academic, Dr Hughes. Following the results, all pupils attended a talk on how to take the positive next steps in their academic preparations.

Upon opening their letters, many pupils had reason to celebrate, while others were able to identify where they need to improve. Fortunately, those pupils still have the opportunity to refocus their attentions to the subjects or topics within those subjects in which they may not have done so well.

Dr Hughes said: ‘As with the real results day in August, receiving all the results in one go (and having to consider the implications of those results) generated more than its fair share of nervous energy. However, the overall experience was a positive one for the Year 13s, many of whom felt the day gave them the spur they needed to make the necessary changes ahead of the summer exams’
