Launching Shiplake at 60
Old Viking SocietyDevelopment

Next year, Shiplake College turns 60-years-old, and to celebrate, we will be launching our ‘Shiplake at 60’ project.

From January 2019 until the summer holidays begin at the end of June, we will be sharing artefacts, stories and photographs from each year of Shiplake College's history. As a relatively young school, this is a brilliant opportunity to show just how much has changed since 1959, but how our ethos and values have stayed the same.

Our first artefact is the original advertisement of Shiplake Court House, which went up for sale in 1958. Mr Alexander Everett, the founder of the School, bought it at a cost of £17,500, which equates to about £400,000 in modern currency. The original listing includes five reception rooms, 31 bedrooms, a boathouse, an orchard, and even the island on which our Year 9 pupils spend a night on every year.

We will be sharing these artefacts at least twice a week, which will undoubtedly build anticipation for our Diamond Anniversary Ball on Saturday 22 June. Click here to read more about the purchase of Shiplake Court in 1958 and follow our Shiplake at 60 project here.
