Becoming a senior prefect is one of the
most significant honours a pupil can experience whilst at school. For the new
academic year, we have appointed 12 full prefects in recognition of the
qualities and achievements they have demonstrated during their time at
Shiplake.
The group, led by Head of College Yeem
Chanthanawan and his deputy Emma Haynes, were selected based on their well
developed sense of responsibility, leadership skills and maturity to recognise
and understand the ideas, standards and goals of the College. They are now
three weeks into their prefectship, and have settled in well.
Deputy Headmaster Mr Rob Jones commented:
“Despite a large number of fantastic applicants, we have deliberately selected
a small number of full prefects to develop a sense of togetherness and team
spirit. These pupils are expected to take full responsibility for the
day-to-day running of the College and ensure the standards of dress,
punctuality and consideration for others are maintained.”
The prefects’ main duties will be helping
and supporting other pupils, dealing with situations within a context of
authority and responsibility and ensuring that justice, sanity, good humour and
a sound climate for learning exists within the school. All prefects understand
they are now an ambassador for the College and should strive to set the best
possible example for younger students.
