Kai Karts in Castelletto
Co-Curricular

Kai Askey in Year 7 recently earned himself a place on the podium as he finished second at Race 4 of the IAME X30 Junior Euro Series (Karting). Kai spent last weekend in Castelletto, Italy, for this fourth and final grand prix of the 2017 series. At age 11, this was Kai's first season competing in the X30 Junior class, for those who turn 12 to 14 this year, so with a December birthday he was the youngest of the 23 participants in the race. This is therefore a very promising start for Kai, who will be competing in this class for a further two years. Kai was one of 8 drivers from Great Britain, with a total of ten nationalities represented overall.

Kai, who has been driving since the age of 8, races with the Fusion Motorsports team. There are a limited number of seats with the team but by achieving fast lap times and showing commitment, he has been making the cut and been able to race all of the UK and Europe.

Kai had previously finished 4th in the 3rd round in Germany in July, and 12th in the 2nd round in France in May. Despite not taking part in the 1st round in Belgium, his results mean that Kai finished fifth in the Championships rankings overall.

This was not the first time he had raced at the track in Castelletto. In April this year he took part in the IAME International Open competition. Not only did this one-off race see Kai finish third but by being in the top three this earned him the honour of being invited to the IAME International Final in Le Mans, France in October, where he will be competing against the best drivers in the world.

As well as racing in Europe, Kai has taken part in 18 race weekends in the UK so far this year and competed in 35 race weekends in the cadet category last year. He is looking forward to doing more racing in Europe during the 2018 season. You can follow Kai on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube!
