OVS Rowers Come Close Second
Old Viking SocietyRowing

On 16 September, the Old Vikings took on Eton College and St Edwards in the Revival Regatta at Eton Dorney Lake.

At 3.00pm, The Old Vikings of Shiplake College raced over 750m to secure a safe third place. Owing to one rower taking ill, our lady cox Pippa stepped up to the mark and filled the empty seat. Eton were kind enough to offer a very capable substitute to guide the Old Vikings through the next two races. The 500m saw the OVS fight for, but proudly earn second place. Now with only the 250m sprint to complete, everything was to race for. With the spectators shouting and a real effort from all of the teams, Shiplake were able to pull ahead and win first place by less than a canvas.

With a mysterious form of handicapping on their side, Eton were able to take first place, despite sacrificing one of their men, who received stern words from his teammates after helping guide the Old Vikings to second place. Team captain Rob Robertson said

The weather was perfect and a fun afternoon was had by all. Handshakes all round followed by an excellent afternoon tea provided by Eton College. We're really looking forward to next year's event!

Thanks go out to everyone who spectated and supported our boys, and special thanks go to Pippa who truly saved the day.
