Head of Business Mr Andrew White has announced an exciting
new project to be run in conjunction with the Media Department, which will see
the launch of the Headmaster’s Business Project Award. The esteemed title will
be awarded to the pupil or pupils who produce the most impressive response to a
given project brief. In the inaugural competition, Sixth Form pupils will be
compiling a documentary on the use of marketing within the fashion industry.
The award is open to all Year 12 and 13 Business BTEC
students, as the documentary will be used to support their coursework
portfolios. The pupils are tasked with understanding how and why particular
customer groups are targeted by a marketing campaign. The documentary should
also demonstrate knowledge of the role of promotion within the marketing mix for
a selected product or service, including the possible role of advertising
agencies.
Head of Media Mr Marcus Milburn will offer support to the Business
students in the production of the documentary, along with students from Media
Studies. Mr Milburn gave an introductory lecture on how to compile a
documentary and will offer ongoing assistance. When all the documentaries are
complete, Mr Milburn, Mr Bloor and Mr White will select the three best students
from Year 12, and the three best students from Year 13. The six chosen students
will then be put forward for the new Headmaster’s
Business Project Award.
The final six candidates will present their documentaries to
the three subject teachers in addition to Headmaster Mr Davies and Director of
Studies Mr Munro. The judging panel will then be faced with the difficult task
of selecting a winner from each year group. Mr Milburn will be looking for suitable
use of the camera, effective editing and use of sound, and work which has the ‘feel’
of a corporate video. However, the students must not sacrifice substance for
style, as the Business experts on the panel will be focussing intently on the
academic content of the films.
