An Action-Packed Week for Lower School
Co-CurricularTrips & Visits

The pupils from Years 7 and 8 enjoyed an action-packed adventure week during the second week of June. Year 8 headed to Beaulieu and the Ferny Crofts Scout Centre, accompanied by Mrs Eleanor Hallam, whilst the Year 7 group headed to Barton Hall in Devon, with Mr Sam Beckett.

The boys from Year 8 enjoyed a packed few days of activities at Ferny Crofts. Nestled in the heart of Brockenhurst, Hampshire, the activity centre provided the perfect backdrop for the pupils to throw themselves into the physically demanding tasks. Learning to shoot with air rifles, rafting and leaping from a 15 foot high pole to catch a trapeze bar were just some of the exercises that the boys were daring enough to try! A particular favourite was the ‘gladiator challenge’, which saw the pupils tackle a particularly tricky obstacle course, and helping their team mates to complete it.

The group also explored comforts a little closer to home. A cooking lesson proved great fun, although not in a run of the mill kitchen - instead, the boys created an open fire and enjoyed cooking in the great outdoors, preparing food and toasting marshmallows.

Meanwhile, the Year 7 boys headed down to Torquay in Devon to get involved with different activities at PGL Barton Hall, a dedicated centre for activity holidays. The boys tried their hand at fencing and archery, as well as jumping on mountain bikes and riding round the hilly estate, taking in the beautiful countryside surrounding the Hall. The boys clearly had a head for heights, as they all particularly enjoyed the abseiling and the vertical challenge, which involved climbing up a vertical obstacle course!

Both Mr Beckett and Mrs Hallam were very impressed with the behaviour of the pupils during the trips, who not only tried their hand at all of the activities on offer, but also behaved well and made sure to work as a team throughout all of the challenges.
