Shiplake College rugby star Fili Savou will begin his career as a professional rugby player next season, after signing a three year contract with RC Toulon. Toulon are widely recognised as the leading force in European rugby, having won the Heineken Cup for the past three seasons.

Powerful centre Fili has represented both England and Fiji in youth internationals, and has emerged as a key member of the Saracens academy squad. He now follows in the footsteps of many British talents, including Jonny Wilkinson, in making the trip across the channel.

Fili will initially join Toulon’s Under 21 squad to continue his progression. His sights are firmly set on breaking in to the senior squad in the coming years, and plying his trade in the French ‘Top 14’ league. Fili will take inspiration from former Shiplake teammate Tom Howe, who now plays for Wasps RFC.

Director of Sport Mr James Gaunt commented: ‘Fili is a very promising young athlete and has contributed a great deal to Shiplake rugby over recent years. The coaching and development he has received at school and at Saracens Academy will stand him in good stead as he makes the step up to the professional adult game. We all wish him the best of luck for the future, and hope his success will inspire our current cohort of talented rugby players to strive for the very top.’
