Celebrating Academic Effort

Whole College Assemblies returned today, Tuesday 16 April, as we started the Summer Term in the Sports Hall. It was wonderful to welcome everyone back for the final term of the academic year with the Headmaster, Mr Howe, referring to it as the ‘business end of the year’ with many public exams taking place for our Year 11 and Year 13 pupils, and internal exams for the rest of our pupils. 

However, before looking forward to the Summer Term and all that it brings, we took a moment to look back at some of the academic successes from the Spring Term. Before we broke up for the Easter break, all our pupils received their latest Progress Review of the year of which one important aspect is the Engagement with Learning scores which is a score for a pupil’s academic effort. 

This category has nothing to do with grades or academic potential and, as Deputy Head (Academic) Mr Jones said, every single pupil is capable of putting in the effort to score highly in this category.

In addition to the above pupils, we also recognised those who have made the greatest improvement in their Engagement with Learning scores from the start of the academic year to their most recent Progress Review. Speaking in assembly, Mr Jones said: 

‘Well done to all pupils. You are providing an excellent example to others of hard work and determination – particularly those pupils in Years 11 and 13 working towards their public exams.’
