Activity and Enrichment Week
Co-CurricularTrips & Visits

Today has seen vegetarian risotto being made in Welsh House, delicate swans being carved in the Great Hall, rotisserie flame cooked chickens being prepared on the Skipwith Lawn, pupils learning how to make Soup with left overs (especially for when they go off to University) and Flat Bread being made in Gilson House. Pineapple upside down cakes, lemon drizzle cakes, rich fruit cakes and scrumptious chocolate cakes were being created in the College House kitchen.

There was a mouth-watering smell of delicious cooking everywhere.

Mrs Davies, Mrs Bell and Miss Redley were teaching the Year 10 boys how to sew. Many different techniques were being demonstrated, alongside learning the practical elements, of sewing on buttons and mending holes. Perhaps sewing on name tapes comes next?

Year 10 has been having fun splashing about on the river (and in some cases in it).

As a leadership and team building exercise the boys have been building rafts in teams of four.

They are given the raw materials for a raft. They are also given instructions. Some choose to follow these instructions and some teams get rather carried away with their own creativity.

Some float and some don’t ....as you can see from the photo. The finishing task is to paddle to the island and back, today - one team succeeded – let’s see what happens tomorrow!

As another part of the Activity Week, one supervised group walked from Hurley to Shiplake via Marlow which took almost eight hours. Yesterday another group walked to Marlow from Shiplake in the pouring rain.  All good character building challenges.

There were other groups who were canoeing. For many it was the first time, so they were taught the proper capsize drill, and of course wore life jackets.  Much fun was had by all.   (Pictures by Will Lovatt. Year 8)
