Welsh House is set away from the College at the end of the drive which gives the boys the feeling of leaving school each day even though they are still on site. Welsh House has two Houseparents, Lucy and Simon Balderson, who took up the role in January 2012. They live next door to Welsh with their son Toby.
Working with Mr and Mrs Balderson as Matron is Mrs Lynne Fairbairn. In addition, Welsh has a tutor team to assist with the day-to-day running of the house. Mr Tom Fitton is Resident Tutor.
Welsh House has two dayrooms, a large kitchen, computing facilities and a games room with a snooker table and table football. There is a tennis court adjoining the garden and a BBQ area where the very popular house barbeques are held.
'We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.' - Aristotle
It is expected that a Welsh House boy will take advantage of the many opportunities available to him at Shiplake and approach College life with energy and enthusiasm. We are not a house for those who like to spend their free time slumped in front of the television.
Excellence is celebrated both in academia and outside the classroom. The House has a proud sporting tradition, but all talents are valued equally whether they are in Art, Music, Debating or any other field. We hope you will come and visit us to experience our friendly and supportive community.
