Everett House is located above the College reception, with magnificent views of the River Thames. The modern House accommodates approximately 50 pupils, consisting mainly of day pupils but with some boarders at Sixth Form, with an energetic House dynamic.
Everett has a friendly and informal atmosphere, with two common rooms providing plenty of space to relax, along with a games room and games consoles.
House staff strive to provide a homely and welcoming atmosphere where the boys can explore new opportunities, discover their strengths, be supported and have their achievements celebrated. The House offers a ‘home away from home’ environment that is so important in a boarding school. It is a place where individuality is welcomed and a community to which all members can belong.
There is, of course, plenty of time allocated for concentrated work and independent study. The interaction between staff and pupils is built upon mutual respect. Tutors combine awareness of the needs of teenagers with sensible, consistent guidance to aid all pupils’ personal development.
Housemaster: Mr Tom Armstrong
Mr Armstrong joined the English Department at Shiplake in 2011, and after three successful years moved into Everett as Housemaster. Mr Armstrong currently lives on site with family and their black Labrador, Talisker.
Mr Armstrong is a talented sportsman and co-coaches the Shiplake 1st XV rugby team during the Autumn Term before his focus switches to rowing after Christmas.
Mr Armstrong is a keen skier, enjoys the theatre and particularly looks forward to any time he is able to spend in the Scottish Highlands with his family.
Deputy Housemaster: Mr James Batchelor
After graduating with a degree in Biological Sciences from Exeter University, Mr Batchelor moved to Reading in 2008 and joined Shiplake College as a teacher of Science in January 2019.
Mr Batchelor is our KS3 Science Lead, Year 9 Head Rowing Coach and became Assistant Head of Lower School in September 2021.
By his own admission, a fair-weather golfer during the summer months, in 2018 Mr Batchelor was part of a team who won the Berkshire Schools Golf Association Herbert Trophy at Eton’s golf course. His true passion, however, is rowing. Having rowed competitively since 2007 he represents Marlow Rowing Club and has thoroughly enjoyed competing at Henley Royal Regatta.
Matron: Mrs Charlotte Wilson
Mrs Wilson joined as Matron of Everett in September 2019 and very much enjoys supporting the boys in the House. She is an integral part of the pastoral team and is on duty every day of the week, also dealing with domestic matters.
Mrs Wilson is a keen baker. She has a degree in English and history and has previously been a housemistress at another school, looking after the mental and physical wellbeing of students.
