Military Families

We are proud to support the families and children of those serving in the British Armed Forces. We have a number of military parents, from all ranks and military disciplines, at Shiplake. It can be a challenge for military families to find an educational setting where their children can have continuity for the education and wellbeing, even when parents may be deployed overseas.

From September 2025, HM Forces personnel in receipt of the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA), will only pay the equivalent of 10% of their full or weekly boarding fees (in addition to the CEA amount received).

Shiplake has no direct contact or contract with the MOD and we know that the CEA process can be confusing. The CEA is claimed by the military family and money sent directly to them not to the school - families apply for a serial number through the Education Advisory Team and complete Joint Personnel Administration (JPA) to confirm they meet the eligibility criteria, before being issued an eligibility certificate. Families must keep receipts to prove they have paid the school fees using the CEA received.

Members of the Armed Forces not in receipt of the CEA (including day/flexi pupils), receive 20% discount off their fees.

If additional financial assistance is required, families may also apply for means-tested bursarial support in line with the College's bursary policy.

Our Housemasters and pastoral teams work very closely together, forming a close relationship with the families, to help provide appropriate support, security and care for children. Our nurturing environment creates a stable home-from-home boarding experience

We are happy to put you in touch with other military families for a reference. Please contact a member of our Admissions Team to make an enquiry.
