Parents Enjoy Cocktail Party in Style
Parents' Association

Shiplake parents enjoyed a Summer Cocktail Party in the Prize Giving marquee towards the end of term. A move away from the traditional ball with table-plans, instead the dance floor and DJ took centre stage, with high-top tables and bar stools scattered around and some sofa 'chill-out' areas available. Guests enjoyed the more informal dress code, with colourful attire being a go-to option for all attendees.

The evening started with welcome 'PA Passion' cocktails on the lawn, with live music proved by pupil-band Shockwave, comprising Henry Johnston, Felix Collar and Leo Slowikowski. Roaming the groups of guests was a magician performing some incredible close-up tricks and sleight of hand.

During the evening there was a Wine Roulette and a Champagne Raffle, both raising money for Oxfordshire-based charity Style Acre, which works to enhance the lives of adults with learning disabilities and autism. Jo Whittaker from Style Acre said "We are delighted that the evening raised £5,000. This money will make such a difference to our Green Acre Garden Maintenance business, which enables paid working opportunities for our supported gardeners. The money raised will go towards purchasing a new vehicle for the team to keep them out on the road. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who made this possible from everyone from Style Acre."

There was a selection of quirky canapes and small plate and bowl food provided by Thomas Franks Ltd throughout the evening and as the sun went down, the dance floor lit up with the DJ playing a playlist that all the parents enjoyed (there was even a dads' breakdance dance-off spotted at one point!). Cindy Harper, Chair of the Shiplake Parents' Association, said: "The Summer Cocktail Party was a huge success and the change in format from the usual black-tie dinner was extremely well received. Thanks to the amazing catering team for coming up with such a fun food and cocktail menu and to Sarah Mullens and the rest of the PA team for pulling it all together."
