The Viking Arms, Shiplake College’s virtual pub, has raised an amazing £800 for local Henley charity, NOMAD in its last online quiz of Lockdown 2.0.

The Virtual Family Quiz Night which took place every Friday evening during the first lockdown was the highlight of many Shiplake families’ week. When Lockdown 2.0 began, The Viking Arms came back due to popular demand for five weeks to help keep spirits up.

Hosted by quizmasters Mr and Mrs Settle, they did an amazing job of building a community event around their virtual pub The Viking Arms, which pays tribute to the term attributed to current and former Shiplake pupils. For 21 Fridays of this year they have quizzed up to 100 families each edition and brought a bit of fun and competition into the front rooms of many.

To celebrate their last quiz of 2020, they ran a Christmas special evening and asked for donations for local charity, NOMAD.

Mr Settle said: “We are utterly overwhelmed by the support of our ‘regulars’ at the Viking Arms.

“We had initially thought we would raise £150 on the evening and were shocked to see the total keep rising. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part and supported this great cause, not to mention those who supported us since we started these quizzes back in April.”

NOMAD Youth & Community project is an active local charity based in Henley that supports children, young people and families at grass roots level. They provide support for those facing challenging situations in their lives and seek to work collaboratively with other organisations and agencies through delivering positive and individually tailored programs of support.
