The Media Studies Department held their annual 'Shiplake Oscars' events in the Lecture Theatre over the past week to showcase the fantastic practical work produced by Year 12 and Year 13 media students. As part of the premiere of the films made, awards where given for excellence in a range of categories.

On Thursday 9 June, we celebrated the range of film openings that have been made over the past two years. A wide variety of genres were on display, with crime dramas, thrillers and horror films being the most popular. Students spend part of the Year 12 course researching and planning for the creation of these films and the skills that they develop will stand them in good stead for the Year 13 music video project.

On Monday 13 June, we showcased the Year 13 music videos. Again, a wide variety of genres were covered, with dance tracks, singer-songwriters and R'n'B all represented and the standard across the work was incredibly high.

Head of Media Studies Mr Marcus Milburn said: "It's such a pleasure to show the students' work on the big screen, where it deserves to be. They've put a lot of effort in over the past two years and some of these films were produced during lockdown, which in itself is a fantastic achievement.

"I say it every year but the standard just keeps getting better and better and it's incredible to see such professional looking work being produced. I'm already looking forward to seeing what the next group of media students are going to make."
