The Media Studies Department hosted its annual ‘Shiplake Oscars’ on Friday 16 May in the Lecture Theatre, celebrating the exceptional practical work produced by Year 12 and Year 13 students.
The event brought together students and staff to enjoy a showcase of this year’s film openings and music videos on the big screen, with awards presented for excellence across a range of categories. Proceedings began with the Year 12 film openings, with a wide variety of genres on display, demonstrating the depth and breadth of skill. These projects form an important foundation, allowing students to develop key filmmaking techniques.
The second half of the event focused on the Year 13 music videos, which again demonstrated an impressive range of genres, concepts and production styles. The standard across the cohort was exceptionally high, reflecting the skills students have developed over the two-year course.
Head of Media Studies Mr Marcus Milburn praised the students’ achievements and the success of the event, saying: “It is always so exciting to see the film and music video outcomes up on the big screen, where they belong and I know our students get so much out of being able to share their work in this way. I have been tremendously impressed with the creativity and level of effort put into this year's work and I am also so pleased that so many others came to watch the films and share in the celebration and perhaps be inspired to want to try their hand at their own filmed projects. I am already looking forward to next year's Oscars!”
