Shiplake College has introduced the digital platform Wellio to enhance the delivery of Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) for pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4.
PSHEE and RSE at Shiplake play a central role in pupils’ personal development and understanding of the modern world. These lessons provide pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed choices. Enabling them to build resilience with respect for themselves and others.
The introduction of Wellio complements lessons with a dynamic, digital approach. The platform allows pupils to explore a wide range of topics through interactive discussion, age‑appropriate video content and quizzes that help reinforce key concepts. Lessons are carefully matched to each year group, ensuring pupils encounter content that is relevant, engaging and appropriate as they progress through the school.
A key benefit of Wellio is how it encourages pupil participation and reflection. By allowing responses to be shared anonymously with the class, the platform encourages pupils to contribute openly, share perspectives and ask thoughtful questions about potentially sensitive topics.
Head of PSHE and Assistant Head (Pastoral), Mrs Fiona Dunn, commented: “All PSHEE/RSE teaching takes place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values […] The college delivers an excellent PSHEE/RSE programme through the use of the ‘Wellio’ platform and lessons are interactive which allow for pupils to demonstrate their understanding and express themselves in class using the digital platform.”
The platform also provides valuable insights for teaching staff. Lesson data enables teachers to see how well pupils have understood key ideas. This supports a responsive approach to teaching and helps to ensure pupils gain the most out of each lesson.
The introduction of Wellio reflects Shiplake College’s continued approach towards educational technology to enhance learning for pupils and support teachers in delivering engaging and meaningful lessons. By embracing platforms such as Wellio, the College ensures pupils are well equipped with the understanding, confidence and life skills needed to thrive both at school and beyond.
