On Wednesday 1 May, our Year 7 cohort went on an exciting trip to the legendary Warwick Castle as part of their study of Medieval England in their history lessons.

Head of History, Mr Player, writes:

‘The fantastic castle was built by William the Conqueror, and its imposing stone walls have withstood years of invasion, siege, treachery, civil war... and now Shiplake College! Our pupils had an awesome day as they were treated to a tour of the castle, a weapons workshop, had the unique opportunity to climb the towers and battlements, and even watch a trebuchet being fired!

It was a brilliant day and a big thank you has to be said to history teachers Miss Lane, Miss Russell, and Mr Bosomworth, as well as thank you also to honorary historians Reverend Dr Baker, Mr Cartwright, Mrs Hill, and Mrs Hendriks!’

Leon Askey, one of the pupils on the trip, writes:

‘If I could name a memorable trip that I went on during my time at Shiplake, it will be Warwick Castle. When we arrived, it was certainly a sight to behold. Our tour guide told us the history of the whole site and it was certainly interesting to hear about.

After we had finished tour, we got into our respective groups and looked around the castle where there were all sorts of interesting people and objects. Then we all did activities such as going up a high tower and going into a maze. We also learned quite a few things, but alas, as with all trips, all things sadly come to an end. Overall, Warwick Castle was one of the most amazing trips I have been on!’
