On Monday 10 March, our Scholars enjoyed a captivating Scholars Masterclass led by Mr Ben Scotchbrook, who visited the College to share his wealth of experience from a career producing television news.

Ben, spoke about his time at ITN, where he worked on major national and international stories, from covering the Kosovo War to reporting on high‑profile events such as the Oscars. He also gave students an insight into life inside the White House press operation, recalling several memorable encounters with President Bill Clinton.

The talk offered a rare glimpse into what happens behind the camera and inside a busy newsroom. Ben demonstrated how a wide range of academic interests—from politics and geography to English, art, and technology—play an essential role in the world of news production. Students learned about the many career paths available in the industry, including roles such as journalist, camera operator, editor, studio manager, producer, and even make‑up artist.

The Lecture Theatre was filled with Scholars and students from across the College who were keen to hear Ben’s lively and engaging presentation. His stories, insights, and advice made for a fascinating session that sparked plenty of questions and curiosity.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Scotchbrook for giving up his time to speak with our Scholars and for offering such an inspiring look into the world of broadcast journalism
