On Wednesday 10 June, Shiplake College held the annual communion service on the banks of the River Thames, in the setting sun. Year 12 pupil Anna Davies attended the service, and provided the following report:

‘The annual Riverside Communion is a very inclusive event, bringing together pupils from the College with other local schools and members of the community. Guests were invited from Queen Anne’s School, Shiplake Parish and Dunsden Parish, and the calm riverside provided a perfect backdrop to the bustling crowd. The weather was kind in as far as it did not rain, but it was very cold!

Mr Nick Brown gave a very interesting address about river connections, relating this to many different aspects of the College and the congregation. Live music was provided from the Chamber Choir, as well as Mr Paul Jones. Throughout the service, the Headmaster’s dogs behaved impeccably after having warmly welcomed everyone. It was a very moving and enjoyable evening by the river particularly poignant for those members of the College who are leaving us this year.

After the service, the College hosted the congregation in the Old Vikings Room, where pupils, staff and members of other schools enjoyed refreshments provided as always by our excellent Catering Department, and reflected on what had been a very touching service.'
