Lower School pupils have been working hard in Art Club to design and craft beautiful decorations for Shiplake College’s Christmas tree, now proudly displayed at St Mary’s Church, Henley. Their imaginative creations, made from a variety of materials, reflect the festive spirit and teamwork that characterise life at Shiplake.
The pupils embraced the challenge of creating decorations by hand, using paper, wool, and natural items to bring their chosen theme to life. Their efforts have resulted in a tree that stands out for its originality and attention to detail, demonstrating the creativity and enthusiasm of our Lower School community.
Isla Williams, Amy Longden and E.Bacon, spoke about their experience creating the decorations for the Shiplake tree - "We all felt very fun, festive and very relaxed doing this activity. We thought the colours were bright and fun, it made us happy. Together we made bows, trees and paper chains. We loved it."
Art teacher Mrs Platt added "Guided by the word 'vibrant' students produced colourful paper chains and decorated ceramic Baubles with festive designs in multicolour pens. Which now brings festive cheer to St Mary’s Church in Henley."
The tree is part of the Henley Christmas Tree Festival, which runs from 2–11 December and features contributions from local schools, charities, and businesses. Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite tree and make a small donation to support St Mary’s Church, with all proceeds going towards church fundraising.
We are incredibly proud of the pupils’ hard work and the stunning display they have created. If you are in Henley during the festival, we encourage you to visit St Mary’s Church to see Shiplake’s tree and celebrate the creativity of our students.
