Lots of positive reports and results in today's Sports Report as we catch up on the cricket matches from the previous week!

Cricket

1st XI vs Halliford

Shiplake won the toss and elected to bat. With the top three falling quickly, R O’Boyle stepped to the crease and steadied the Shiplake innings. With some patient batting and some fantastic shots going over the boundary, Shiplake were back in the game. B Stokes was at the other end and hit the shot of the day straight down the ground going for 4. R O’Boyle was then unfortunately bowled for 51, and Shiplake ending the innings 121/9 off 20 overs.

Shiplake then had to defend their total in the field. L Crerar opened the bowling, applying pressure to the Halliford batting line up finishing the day with an economy of 1.75 having taken 2 wickets. O Perkins has made a fantastic start to his season and had another brilliant game with the ball bowling very consistently and frustrating the batting. Halliford struggled to score and ended up with 100 after 20 overs. Shiplake won by 21 runs.

Under 15A v The Oratory (National Cup)

A quick start by Shiplake with L Waldegrave hitting the wall to the boundary for fun from some very generous bowling meant that Shiplake raced to 50 for none from just five overs. A couple of wickets slowed things down, and the middle overs were far gentler. Shiplake then picked things up again with J Andrew and C Cooper finding the boundary. 156 from 20 overs was a good total. Shiplake were as generous, if not more so than the Oratory with their bowling giving over 30 runs in wides in the first 10 overs alone. However, the opposition were unable to hit the boundary balls like the Shiplake batters and as a result never really threatened the total that Shiplake had posted. A flurry of wickets at the end for J Ellison and C Goss and Oratory were all out for 110.

Under 15A v Dr Challoner’s Grammar School

Result: Lost by 79 runs

Under 15A v Halliford School

Result: Lost by 66 runs

Under U14A/15B v Dr Challoner’s Grammar School

Result: Lost by 4 wickets

Lower School 1st XI vs Claires Court

A convincing win for the Lower School 1st XI against Claires Court. They opted to bat first but L Moss and M Brown bowled beautifully to have them 5 wickets down for 4 runs. Despite G Denning joining in the fun to record figures of 2 for 8 runs from 3.4 overs, we let them off the hook slightly, allowing them to score 76 with 2 balls to go of their 20 overs. We then batted in a very controlled fashion to score 77 from 7.4 overs, finishing with a sweet pull over square leg for 6. A good day all round.

Lower School 2nd XI vs Claires Court

Shiplake won the toss and took the positive move of batting first. Off their 16 overs Shiplake scored 91, with T Lawrence batting through scoring 27 not out, supported with runs from A Gleason, T Sales and C Maher. Shiplake took early wickets through the bowling of O Pollard and L Ball, restricting the scoring by Claires Court. With the opposition scoring 81, Shiplake won by 10 runs.

Lower School Girls vs Holyport

The girls played a softball pairs match against Holyport on Wednesday afternoon. Shiplake were into bat first so had to try and rack up the runs and take some risks to give Holyport something to chase. Some excellent batting all round put us in a good position going into field. However, some strong bowling and batting from the Holyport side saw us lose by just 9 runs.

Coach’s Bowler of the Match went to P White, and Player of the Match went to A Mertes.
