Rowing: Reading Amateur Regatta
We had a brilliant evening on Friday 13 June at our annual Boat Club Dinner which we will cover separately, but there was plenty of action over the weekend at the Reading Amateur Regatta.
Fresh off the back of a famous National Schools’ Regatta double, winning Girls and Open Championship Eights, our senior eights continue to build momentum. On Saturday, we were victorious in Band One Women’s Eights after triumphing over Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA, by three and a half lengths in the final having beaten London RC earlier that morning. And on the Open side of things, it was Hampton School in the final after we bear Reading Blue Coat School. In the end, the boys ran out winners by two lengths.
In other results, the girls’ quad won their event, as did the boys’ quad. The J14 quad of C Craig, W Wackerle, Z Hashemi, and F Jenkins also won their event after beating Wallingford in the final by 2 and a half lengths.
On Sunday, the J14, J15, and J16s were all in action. Three crews made a final however only J14 C crew were victorious beating Kew House in their final. Congratulations to the crew of D Piers, E Morgan, S Harrison, H Lawrence, A Richardson, A Kimyani, G Huckle, L Ellison, and O Schofield.
Shiplake Open Tennis Finals
Tennis at Queen's Club may be well underway but the real action was here over the weekend for our Shiplake Open Finals Day! There were some fantastic matches played on the pristine grass courts as players battled it out for victory. In the Gentleman's Singles, Z Fisher played a brilliant match to defeat W Fisher while P Brown defeated A Godfrey in the Ladies’ Singles. P Brown then teamed up with A Humphreys in the Mixed Doubles final as they defended their title against Mr Johnston and Miss James. The junior pair then split for their Junior Doubles and Junior Singles clashes with A Humphreys avenging last year’s final to claim the singles title. He then completed a clean sweep by winning the Junior Doubles title with his partner J Hunt against P Brown and D Crisford. In the Senior Doubles final, S Murray and Z Fisher put in a strong performance but narrowly missed out as Mr Johnston and Mr Shaw defended their title. The winning staff pair then faced off in the Staff Singles final on Tuesday 17 June with Mr Johnston triumphing 7-5 6-4 in a tight, but thrilling match.
