Preparations continue for the Boat Club as we get ever nearer to Henley Royal Regatta! Two major events took place over the weekend - Marlow Regatta and Henley Women's Regatta - and we had many crews competing. Additionally, we welcomed back many Old Vikings for a cricket match and BBQ and we also saw an end of season girls' sport event for our Lower School and Gilson girls.
Rowing
Henley Women’s Regatta
Our girls were in action over the weekend at Henley Women's Regatta with three crews competing in the Junior 4+, Junior 4x-, and Junior 8+ categories. Of the three, the 4x- and 8+ crews made it out of the time trials and through to the heats with 8+ going furthest in the competition by reaching the semi-finals.
The crew - consisting of Ava Lowe, Freya Smith, Alice Knight, Annunciata Ings, Katie Proudlove, Eva Rootkin-Gray, Amelia Westbrook, Alice Dargue, and Charlotte Hodgkinson (cox) - were narrowly beaten by St Edward's School by ¼ length. The crew had previously beaten Bedford Girls' School and Lady Eleanor Holles School on the way to the semi-final.
The 4x- of Abby Hutton, Tilly Foreman, Felicity Hudson, and Florence Dallas were beaten in the round of 16 by Methodist College Belfast RC.
Marlow Regatta
Six crews were in action at the annual Marlow Regatta which takes place at Dorney Lake. For some competitors, it is the last chance to pre-qualify for Henley Royal Regatta but it also provides a chance for more side-by-side racing for younger crews. Of the six crews that took part, four made an A Final – the J16 8+, the J15 8+, and our two J14 8+x crews. Of these crews, we were delighted to see one of our J14 crews win. Well done to the crew of Max Terry, Florian Jenkins, L Mckenna-Mayes, W Wackerle, Oliver Thorpe, Oliver Houldsworth, George Dallas, and Charlie Craig (cox).
Cricket
It was lovely to welcome back many of our Old Vikings on Friday 20 June for an evening of cricket with our current senior pupils! This annual event is always great fun and a brilliant chance to catch up with old and familiar faces over a game of cricket and a BBQ! Well done to the pupils for winning!
Rounders
On Wednesday 18 June, a group of our Year 12 girls - Flo Rait, Febe Fisher, Abi O’Shea, and Molly Mundy - organised a mixed Lower School girls and Year 12 rounders tournament as an end of Summer Term girls’ sport celebration! It was a glorious afternoon in the sunshine with Team 2 (led by Molly Mundy) coming out victorious. A huge well done to all the girls who participated, and many thanks also to Miss Brett and Miss Povey for their umpiring!
